Gratitude for the Voiceover Industry: The People Who Teach With Real Value

I’ve learned a lot in VO from people who teach because they actually care—people who make the path clearer, not more noisy or gatekeepy. This is a gratitude post for the educators, coaches, podcasters, and creators who’ve helped me sharpen my craft and my business with content that’s seriously worth your time. Like, for real.

I first want to mention my partner, without whom I would never be able to accomplish the things I’ve done. The level of dedication, love, and support I’ve received from her from day one is something truly unimaginable. I often feel like there’s no way I could possibly deserve any of it, let alone repay it, but I know I’m thankful beyond words and her love motivates me every day to be the best person I can possibly be— for her, our children, and myself.

Annnd….then there’s some other folks. Half of them I’ve worked with 1:1 and of course already directly thanked them all profusely :)

People in the VO industry I’m grateful for

Tom Dheere

Tom is regularly interviewed on industry podcasts and is an absolute wealth of knowledge about the industry. He also doesn't candy-coat. When I worked with Tom directly, he said my demo was "decent" which was absolute music to my ears. It meant I was on the right track but I'm nowhere near perfect. Thanks Tom for all your consultation, your great library of high-quality paid video content and for urging me to start blogging.

Gina Scarpa

Gina is also featured on tons of industry podcasts and is a wealth of intel and a delight to speak with! From her group coaching spots in Voices.com webinars to working with her directly to help optimize my casting site profiles and SEO, Gina is incredibly friendly and outgoing and shares her knowledge with the same level of excitement I have for this work. Thanks Gina for your attention to detail and all the time and effort you've put into mastering the things you teach to others.

Jay Myers

I bet everyone says this, but he is just so damn approachable and chill, and that really shines through in the quality of his content. I've done 1:1 coaching with Jay and he was amazing, helping me correct pacing issues as well as giving me tips for my video game / animation characters. Thanks Jay for your treasure trove of performance and editing videos as well as your coaching time.

Marc Scott

Marc has his own podcast that focuses on the business of voiceover and I was able to sit down with him (virtually) to pick his brain at length about refining my strategies. Thank you Marc for telling me to up my direct marketing game and to get more active on LinkedIn :)

Kelly Moscinski & Kathryn Horan & Ben Schneider from The Voicecaster

Kelly and Kathryn host the incredible Voiceover Casting Corner podcast and provide a casting director’s perspective to the industry. Their content often discusses performance techniques and the simple yet slightly impossible notion of “just being yourself.” I was able to work with Ben directly when I used their “VO ‘n’ Go” service where I had an audition or two I was really wanting specific coaching for, and this service was perfect. Also, Ben was able to accommodate me same-day! Thanks Kelly, Kathryn, and Ben for all you do for voice actors.

Natasha Marchewka & Kim Wilson from the Speechless: Real Life in VO podcast

Natasha and Kim provide incredibly helpful info spanning performance, marketing, interviews, and discussion of the industry. Thank you Natasha and Kim especially for your Apollo episode that prevented me from several email marketing pitfalls.

Kenny Gioia - REAPER Mania YouTube Channel

Kenny’s REAPER Mania YouTube channel is a literal encyclopedia of the Reaper DAW software and his videos are well thought-out and delivered by an instructor and master of the craft, as opposed to most YT content which is overlong and full of '“umms” and “ahhs.” Kenny is a true teacher and it shows immediately. Thank you Kenny for demystifying Reaper and making it so accessible.

Mike Russell - Music Radio Creative YouTube Channel

Mike has incredibly useful and mercifully brief videos about specific editing topics in Adobe Audition. Thank you Mike for knowing that when someone is looking for an answer, they want it fast!

Sound Headquarters YouTube Channel

Thank you Daniel for providing your insanely detailed booth-build video which I used as a template for my newest custom booth which I'm very happy with (aka not the closet booth—separate new booth post coming soon!).

If you’re newer to VO and you’re feeling overwhelmed, I hope this list helps you find a few folks worth following. And to the people I named here: thank you for raising the bar—for your generosity, your honesty, and your willingness to teach. It matters more than you might realize!

If you’ve worked with these folks and want to add anything, please do so in the comments! Also would love to hear any additional people or resources y’all might recco. Thanks!
